Scar Removal
We are quite fortunate that various scar removal treatments are readily available today. This means that we can remove our scars faster than before. One doesn’t have to endure discomfort and embarrassment brought by scars for a long time. Although these treatments are effective, they are not without failures and disadvantages. But these disadvantages can be remedied by doing the following precautions. These precautions are to be strictly observed in order to make the scar removal treatments really effective and to minimize their adverse effects.
- If your scars are serious, don’t decide hastily on a certain kind of scar removal procedure. Consult a doctor or a dermatologist. Let them see your scar and discuss what is best for you and what would fit your budget. This is to avoid wasting time and money spending on ineffective procedures.
- No scar removal treatment is 100% effective. To entirely remove a scar, it needs a combination of several treatments. So you have to make yourself ready financially and emotionally.
- You can choose to use over the counter products. But there is minimal evidence that they work. And if they do work, consistent and regular application for a long period of time is needed. If you are not in a hurry to vanish your scar, you can try this. If these over the counter products cause itching and adverse effects, discontinue immediately.
- Some scar removal treatment can be painful. It would be best to discuss all aspects about a particular treatment with your doctor before pushing through.
- There are many factors to consider on how a scar responds to the treatment such as age, the type of scar and the cause of the scar. No treatment can give you an overnight success. The different treatments of scar removal require patience and repeat treatments.
- Some treatments require avoiding the sun. If this isn’t possible, use sunscreen in order to prevent hyperpigmentation and sunburn. The UV rays of the sun can cause great damage to your healing skin so you need protection.
- Be careful when opting to undergo a surgical procedure to remove your scar. Skin grafting, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion can cause additional scarring, redness and irritation. Also, never consider surgery with keloid scars and hypertrophic scars because this will only worsen the scar.
- There are treatments that work best on some scars but they are not applicable on all scars.
- Over the counter products can be used at home. The other treatments such as chemical peel, laser treatment, dermabrasion, cryotherapy should be done by a doctor or a medical professional.
- Tell your doctor if you have skin disorders or currently undergoing skin treatment because some procedures may not be suitable for your condition.
- Always follow your doctor’s advice after a procedure or treatment. After treatment care of the scar is very important to promote faster healing and to avoid infections.
- Choose your doctor carefully. Make sure they have good reputation and the necessary specialization. Serious problems can be avoided if you can find the right doctor for your need.
